Abstract

This study aims to modify the Attitude Towards Literature Course Scale, initially created by Özdemir in 2008, to make it applicable for an Arabic Literature course. To achieve this, the scale, which includes four sub-dimensions and 33 items in its original Turkish version, was revised to align with the content and scope specific to the Arabic Literature course, incorporating necessary modifications based on expert feedback. A total of 258 students from the Arabic Language Education Departments at Gazi University and Süleyman Demirel University participated in the administration of the adapted scale during the Spring Semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. To evaluate the construct validity of the scale, an Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was initially conducted. The analysis produced a KMO value of 0.87, and Bartlett's test results revealed a Chi-square value of 1263.27 (p = 0.01), confirming the validity of the adapted scale. Through EFA, a structure consisting of three subfactors and 25 items was identified by excluding items with factor loadings below 0.30, which accounted for 66% of the total variance. Subsequently, a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was carried out to evaluate model fit, which verified the three-dimensional structure of the scale. Reliability was assessed by calculating Cronbach's Alpha values for the entire scale and its sub-dimensions. The overall internal consistency was determined to be 0.88, with the first sub-factor at 0.76 and the second and third sub-factors each at 0.74. Based on the results of the EFA, CFA, and reliability analysis, it can be concluded that the Attitude Towards Arabic Literature Course Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool. The outcomes of the adaptation process further highlight the effectiveness of this instrument.
